After the National Championship defeat to the New York Knights last year in New York and then the announcement of them as a home game this season, the Axemen went in search for an appropriate song to get the players and fans fired up for that one game. After narrowing down the selection to a few, one song stood out with its lyrics. The song "You're Going Down" from the Sick Puppies was a perfect fit for the replay of the game that still had the Axemen seething. (You can hear the song and read the lyrics at the Sick Puppies website) The words in the song became so fitting that it became the intro song as the team took the field each game for the season and lines such as "you're the one that's going down" and "when my fist hits your face and your face hits the floor" echoed as the Axemen smashed the players on the opposing teams. The fact that the band is also from Australia made it an even more perfect option with co-owner Spinner Howland and four other Axemen players being from the land down-under.
Well NOW is our chance to see the Sick Puppies perform live here in Jacksonville, as in some kind of ironic or fateful path, they will be performing at the Freebird Cafe in Jacksonville Beach this Sunday night and tickets start at just $15.
Many of the Axemen players, especially the Aussie ones, will be attending the show and they are asking all their fans and supporters to join them for a great night of live music and support the Aussie Band that "fired-up" the Axemen with enough Adrenalin all season long to have them currently sitting undefeated. "This is more than a little coincidental", said Spinner Howland. "First we get beat by New York in the Championship game last year at their home ground. Then we draw them on our schedule this year in Jacksonville. Then the lyrics in "Your Going Down" are about as perfect as you could get for their visit with lines like "the tables turned around", "I'm not running, it's a little different now" and "when my fist hits your face and your face hits the floor". Then you add in the fact that it only took six minutes for the punches to start flying in our game against them and by the end of it all we had dominated them physically and on the scoreboard. And finally to top it all off, the band that sings the song is not only Australian but their visiting Jacksonville. Sometimes things that happen really make you think. I know I will have a big smile on my face when I hear this song live and it is sure to become a life long memory."
