Axemen get behind local American Football teams

Co-owner of the Jacksonville Axemen, Drew Slover is a long time Jaguar season ticket holder and is encouraging all the Axemen fans to help him and the Axemen support Jacksonvilles NFL team. The Jaguars have been great supporters of the Axemen over the past 4 years and have also been very supportive to all the visiting international Rugby League teams that have come to Jacksonville for training camps and games. "We completely understand that money is tight with a lot of people at the moment but we also know it is the holiday season and people are looking to enjoy their time a little more and find social events to attend with family and friends. There is nothing that says Jacksonville more than a Jaguar game." Drew also made a comparison about the two big sporting things to do on the first coast. "Visitors to Jacksonville know it for two sporting events, The Players Championship and the Jaguars. Many people wait all year to take friends and family to the TPC and they need to start feeling like that about our NFL team. Visiting Jacksonville and going to a Jags game is about the best way to create that special memory about time spent here."

Spinner Howland also confirmed that although he is not a season ticket holder, he does attend as many games as his schedule permits and he will definitely be at this Sundays game against Miami. "The first even NFL game I went to was when the Jaguars played the Dolphins back in 2000 before I even lived in Jacksonville. The only player I have heard of was Dan Marino so I went to the game thinking he was the guy I would support. It didn't take long for me to switch my cheering to the Jaguars as they run up a 62 to 7 belting on the Miami team. I have been a fan ever since."

All sports teams understand the difference a great home crowd can make to the way players respond in the game. The fact that the Jaguars have climbed back from a poor start to the season and now have themselves in the playoff hunt is something that is even more valuable for both team and fan moral. Spinner also commented on the Jags progress this year, "After the way they started the season, they have proved that they are not ready to lay down and call the season a wash and that has to be respected. The truth is that this team is 5-1 at home and fans should be proud of that. It pretty much solidifies the belief that fans can make a difference. As someone who has been lucky to experience home and away crowds as an athlete I can promise you it makes a difference. Not every fan can come down and give you a personal good luck comment, but as a collective group in the stands all the fans give you the feeling that you owe them something. The bigger the crowd the bigger the feeling of debt that you need to repay."

The Axemen hope that those who have the ability to attend any of the remaining Jags home games make the effort to do so and if possible take family and friends that may be from out of town to the game as well.

UNF will get to host yet another international "Football" event on December 19 although this time it will not involve the Axemen or even Rugby League. The Jacksonville Knights will open their inaugural American Football season when they welcome team Canada to Hodges Stadium for the North America Bowl.

The Knights have been in pre season training since August when they faced off against the Axemen in the first ever Rugby League vs American Football game. Since then the Knights have been doing everything they can to prepare for their inaugural season and have even added beach fitness workouts to their program.

The game will start at 3pm on Saturday Dec 19th and tickets are only $7. For full info visit www.jacksonvilleknights.org

Come out and cheer on the Knights as they battle it out against the visiting Canadian team.

"The Knights are tough enough to add full contact, no pads, no helmets games against a Rugby League team to their pre-season training. I think team Canada is going to be for a very long afternoon."
