Due to the stadium field being taken off-line for upgrades and to have an international running track added to the venue, the Jacksonville Axemen had requested that all their home games be played at the end of the season on 2008. The AMNRL has granted their requests and meetings with UNF to finalize venue use will now proceed.
The Axemen are very keen to keep the team at UNF and will work with the University in an effort to hold all home games their in 2008. With the main stadium field being under construction, that meant that the second playing surface at UNF would have to accommodate the use of both fields. By requesting home games at the end of the schedule the Axemen would be avoiding many of the various UNF sports teams use and be able to stay at the venue for 2008.
Coach Howland said, "UNF has been a great partner since we started the Axemen and we feel very loyal to them. By asking that all our home games come at the end of the season we now have an opportunity to stay there. The second field at UNF has a great playing surface and we will bring in plenty of mobile bleacher units to seat our fans and plenty of portable bathrooms to ensure that we are able to get as close as possible to the stadium environment."
Concessions including beer sales will also continue and the Axemen expect very little change in the quality of experience that the fans will have.
"We will still have our merchandise stand, concessions will still operate, teams will have locker rooms and sound and scoreboard are in place. UNF is very keen to stay the home of the Axemen and together we feel that we can get through these games with very little change in the experience for either player or fan" said Axemen staff.
The main Field at UNF will be re-opened in early August so the Axemen have also applied to host the AMNRL Grand Final game again in 2008. This decision is expected soon.
Tickets will go on sale as soon as final talks with UNF have been held and details for game times are finalized.
